With its black hood and crisp white feathers, this gull is a charming sight, both elegant and free. A staple of coastal ecosystems, this pelican can be found along the Gulf Coast, Florida, and the southeastern United States, where it dives and swoops in search of fish. (Named by George Ord in 1815, Charles Bonaparte's contributions to American ornithology influenced Audubon's work.)

Curated from an 1871 octavo edition of Birds of America by John James Audubon.

The original lithograph was printed and hand-colored by J. T. Bowen, Philadelphia and published by George R. Lockwood, Late Roe Lockwood & Son, 411 Broadway, New York.

  • We use only the highest quality reprographic equipment and supplies, resulting in magnificent museum-quality artwork that can be passed down for generations to come.

    Prints w/o frames are rolled in protective sheathing and shipped in heavy containers.

    All prints include a .75 inch white border that contains descriptive information and a stamp of authenticity. We plan for a .10 inch overlap from a mat or frame.

    Print sizing supports use with many standard commercial frame sizes depending on aspect ratio of the image (e.g. 2:3 aspect ratio corresponds to a 24x36 standard frame size, without a border or mat).

    Background documentation is sent separately.

  • Our premium quality wood frames are made and painstakingly assembled in the US and are available in a variety of colors depending on the chosen artwork. The framing package includes high quality UV-protected acrylic glazing, acid-free foam core backing, paper dust barrier, and hardware installed so your artwork is ready to hang right out of the box.
